Sports facility with highest demands on quality standards

The multi-purpose sports centre in Puławy is one of the city’s most important training facilities, constructed not only for top handball league team KS AZOTY Puławy's players, but also for volleyball and basketball games. The eye-catching complex impresses with its design, state-of-the-art technology and D+H systems: the building is equipped with large smoke vent dampers which open using high-load D+H rack and pinion drives.

The impressive sports facility features a competition hall, a gym and a wellness area. The design and overall concept both meet the highest quality standards and are remarkable for their dynamic, modern structure and a large usable area that can accommodate up to 3,200 spectators. What’s more, the Puławy sports centre boasts the largest parquet surface in Poland and one of the largest in Europe. This includes the parquet surface beneath the retractable stands. Retracting the stands creates two full-size handball courts, which makes training significantly easier. Such an exceptional sports centre requires equally exceptional systems that improve functionality as well as ensuring the safety and comfort of the players and all sports fans. 

The Puławy sports centre also required an exceptional smoke extraction solution for such a huge roof. Given the large playing area and the general nature of the spaces, it was necessary to use flaps that are not only part of the smoke extraction system, but also components of the natural ventilation system. It was decided to use 40 oversized double-leaf top-hung windows, each measuring 2 x 3 metres, equipped with DXD Series rack and pinion drives, and two single-leaf top-hung windows, each measuring 1.40 x 1.70 metres, also operated with DXD 300/800-BSY+HS Series drives. 

Selected flaps can be opened daily for ventilation. The transparent top-hung vents also let a lot of natural light through to illuminate the court with daylight.  This saves a lot of electricity that would otherwise be used operating the air conditioning and lighting systems.

In the event of a fire, the flaps installed in the Puławy sports centre open automatically, allowing toxic fumes created by the fire to escape. All elements meet the highest quality standards: the flaps have been certified by the Polish certification department of the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) for the reliability of their functional characteristics and the DXD rack and pinion drives have been issued with a certificate of approval from the Polish Scientific and Research Centre for Fire Protection (CNBOP)
