Pure luxury: it's nice and cosy in the new penthouse at 152 Elizabeth Street – thanks in part to ventilation provided by D+H chain drives.

At 152 Elizabeth Street in Manhattan's Nolita neighbourhood – north of Little Italy – seven exceptional luxury apartments have been built. They were designed by none other than renowned Japanese architect Tadao Andō. The apartments were his first project in New York City. The penthouse spans three storeys and offers about 5,600 m² of living space. Upwards of 35 million US-dollars was invested in the building's construction. How did the amount get so high? It's because the most state-of-the-art materials and equipment were selected. The project features several striking details, including lots of very large windows, wide-plank oak flooring, a stone fireplace and a 300 m² outdoor terrace with a reflecting pool – to name just a few. It even has a waterfall inspired by nature, which is typical of Tadao Andō.

The building also features natural ventilation solutions that are right in line with the comfort factor of the overall concept of 152 Elizabeth Street. The upright windows were equipped with D+H chain drives of the VLD, CDC and KA series. They make next to no sound when opening the windows and provide a healthy indoor climate at all times – fully automatically. Together with the Turkish partner company ESBAU, D+H developed an object-specific console solution for the very special profile system of the windows - awning windows on the one hand and parallel opening windows in particular on the other hand. Why our Turkish partner? The customer was Facade41, which is an American subsidiary of Bisam Facade Systems, a Turkish façade designer. And Bisam had already collaborated with ESBAU on quite a few projects successfully in the past. As a result, ESBAU took care of scheduling, project planning and sales as well. The American D+H partner Xiom took control of project implementation on the ground in New York. This is how the worldwide D+H partner network was able to produce such a high-quality and aesthetically pleasing building without a hitch.

The project was awarded Special Mention Partnership of the D+H Atmosphere Award 2019.
